Democratic Candidates And Rusty’s Legacy Sponsor Dog Adoption Event
On Saturday, May 7 McDowell County Democratic Party teamed up with Rusty’s Legacy and Jay Carey’s US House of Representatives NC11 campaign to host a first ever Dog Adoption and Meet the Candidates event. McDowell County based candidates that participated included Phillip Price, for McDowell County Commission and Michelle Price for Board of Education, Glenwood District. They are pleased to announce together with the help of the Mitchell family they found a forever home for Harvey.
Rusty’s Legacy also introduced a few other families and their pets for possible future adoptions. James Lyon a dog trainer and supporter of Jay Carey’s campaign was in attendance helping families get to know the dogs available for adoption and introducing them to best practices when working with their newest member of their family. Together they would like to encourage you to consider adopting from Rusty’s Legacy and participating in their free program if needed.
The Spay Days program is for McDowell County residents who have dogs in need of spay and neuter. The dog owner needs to call the McDowell Animal Services 828-652-6643 to be put on the list. The owners will have to meet the transport on their assigned day at 7 am at Animal Services and will need to pick up their dog at 9:00 the next day (Friday). The program is free of charge.
The mission of Rusty's Legacy is to rescue dogs from high kill shelters, dogs who have been abandoned or neglected and dogs who are at risk of being taken to the shelter. Work tirelessly for a no-kill community by promoting spay and neuter.
At any given time, Rusty's Legacy has 30 to 40 dogs available for adoption. Many of the dogs at Rusty's want to be the only dog in the home. All dogs are spayed/neutered, heartworm negative, have all their shots up to date and are micro-chipped. The adoption fees are $150 for dogs ages 1 - 6, $250 for puppies up to a year old and $100 for dogs over the age of 6. Rusty's is always looking for foster homes for both puppies and for adult dogs.
The shelter is located at 139 Lytle Mountain Road, Marion and it is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 10 am to 2 pm. Appointments can be made to visit the shelter at other times by calling 828-460-3190. The shelter is always in need of towels, sheets and blankets. The rescue is supported by donations and is always grateful for financial donations.
